Climate Change and Fresh-Water Fish

Changes in the number, size and representativeness of fished species  have been
observed for approximately 20 years.

It appears that the proportion of South-living and warm-water fish in  French rivers
has increased from 20% and 40%, respectively, to 50%  between 1979 and 2004. Whereas
large numbers of these small fish tend  to become predominant within the
communities, large fish, more sensitive to the temperature increase, tend to
disappear little by  little.

Kota Kinabalu: There are distinct, measurable signs and actual
events of global warming in Malaysia and Sabah, according to
Prof. Dr Felix Tongkul, Centre for Natural Disaster Studies,
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). “Consistent with changes in the
other parts of the world, surface temperature in most areas in
Malaysia has been showing an upward trend since the last four
decades at rate 2.7 to 4 degrees centigrade per hundred years,”
said Prof. Tongkul.

Panic and fear produce strange reactions. After MNN’s November 1 story about training of Ontario police on Israeli security tactics, an MNN staff received a strange call from “Pres. and L. Bush” with no message. Another MNNer was followed by a strange “cop” looking woman and photographed. The colonial Mohawk police visited another staff member’s home with a bunch of papers in hand. Then a few choppers circled over Katenies’ house. Finally a strange wooden sculpture was left in front of the MNN publishers house.  All within a 24-hour period.

Citizens Demand Certificate of “No-Good” for Vermont Yankee!

Demanding the closure of Vermont Yankee, Green Mountain Earth First!, RTNA, and other citizens challenged the Vermont Public Service Board at their state office in Montpelier-Vermont’s capital-Monday morning. Dressed as elves and Santa Claus, the group entered the offfice and insisted that the Public Service Board (PSB) revoke Entergy Vermont Yankee’s Certificate of the Public Good and instead sign a large cardboard Certificate of the “Public Bad.” “We’ve talked with Santa Claus and clearly Entergy Nuclear has been up to no good,” said one of the elves entering the office. The group held photographs of Vermont Yankee’s 2007 cooling tower collapse and 2004 transformer fire as well as a giant banner reading ‘Do the Public a Service: Closer Vermont Yankee!’ The suddenly, an unforecasted “snowstorm” enshrouded the entire office-bringing an early (nuclear) winter to the annoyed PSB office personnel.
